Our History: "The Church on the Hill..."
Philippi Baptist Church has been a fixture in the Locust Grove community since before 1827. Since the time of its constitution, church members have met for worship in several different buildings starting with a brush arbor. We began as a small country church in a rural farming community and have grown with the community over the years. The latest building program was completed in 2012, with plans for more renovations to come. Philippi has grown and changed throughout the years but has always tried to stay true to its roots…sharing the love of Christ and ministering to our neighbors and our community. We are committed to shining the light of the Gospel to our community and the world.
Our Staff
Michael Tinney, Pastor
Pastor Michael began at Philippi on October 16th, 2022, after serving nearly 25 years as a support pastor at a thriving church in McDonough. He and his wife, Shandra, met in high school and were married a few years later. The Tinneys have 2 children and have lived in Locust Grove since 1998. Michael holds a bachelor's degree and is currently working on a Master of Ministry at Luther Rice College & Seminary. He enjoys fishing and hiking. Contact Pastor Michael at [email protected].

Dalton Kuhn, Student Pastor
Dalton has served as student pastor since March of 2019. Having grownup as a Philippi youth, Dalton went on to graduate from Emmanuel College with two associate and one bachelors degree in sports management. He currently works as a 7th grade Social Studies teacher at Locust Grove Middle School as well as coach to the Locust Grove Middle School football team. He is also a varsity assistant coach for Locust Grove High School baseball program. Outside of work, he enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family. Contact Dalton at [email protected].
